Need help with lower unit

Just replaced the impeller hav

Just replaced the impeller having trouble reinstalling lower unit. I didnt put it in fwd when I took it iout. with the unit out I can turn the prop to the right and it click the shaft will not turn. I can tur it back words and it will turn the shaft. Do I need to put remote shifter in FWD off revv. and do the smae with the lower unit if so how do i change it on the lower unit?

You will need to post the horsepower and year (if you know it) for the motor.

Depending on what you have the shift rod will be drastically different from other models..

"If when you turn the prop clockwise if you get a clicking and then you try counter-clockwise and it either won't turn or the driveshaft turns then you have it in forward gear.

If that's the case then simply put the shifter in forward and reinstall the gearcase. If the drive shaft is not lined up (won't mate back into the bottom of the crank) then you can rotate your prop counter-clockwise until it lines up properly and slips back in.

You should put a bit of grease on the splines at the top of the driveshaft, just don't get the grease up on top of the shaft itself..."
