I have a 150hp Merc on a 17 ft fiberglass boat. I know I may have to play around a little but what size and pitch should I start with? Would you recommend going 4 blade stainless steel? Any help would be appreciated. Mike

" Mike,

Well, you could find a much more technical explaination, but more or less the stainless 4 blade may give you better performance, and is something you might think about with a performance boat. Stainless is stronger, so it can be made thinner and flexes less.. aluminum must be made thicker and flexes more. The obvious downside to stainless is the cost, the other problem with stainless is that when you wack a rock, it is not as forgiving and is good for destroying the prop-shaft. Aluminum is pretty forgiving, it tends to bend before destroying anything else.

As for the pitch, size etc, check out the michigan wheel website, they have a form you can submit and they will get back to you with a recommendation. Also, one of these: www.westmarine.com or www.boatus.com has a prop chart included with the description of the props they sell that may give you an idea.
