Hello , I need help , I got a westerbeke generator 5btd , it’s starting but not stopping , when I hit the stop switch also I don’t hear any klicking , I replaced before the fuel pump . Is the solenoid while the generator is running under power so hits hold open ? Or how it is working ? I have a dealing that I screw the solenoid to far in that it’s sitting close to running position and I have an issue with the oil presure switch ?? So actually the generator shouldn’t start cause it’s safety position right now ? Thx for help

I don't know your generator, but the stop solenoid holds open a valve to allow fuel into the injector pump. When the power is on, the stop solenoid is holding open the valve. The solenoid is usually in the to of the injector pump but can be separate.
There should be an ID plate on the injector pump. You might find a manual online.

So I found out that when I start the generator the wires to the solenoid bring power ,as soon as I release the preheat and start switch and the generator runs there is no more power on that wires means the stop switch can’t operate cause there is no power , I guess the only reason why it’s running cause I screw the solenoid a little bit to much in so the lever is not realy close ? Is there a Relais or something what makes the solenoid wires „hot“ while running ? Thx for help

Looking at the service manual, the fuel solenoid has three wires: 1) Ground, 2) a pull-in lead, and 3) a hold lead. It looks like the preheat switch energizes the glow plugs and the pull-in lead on the fuel solenoid. The fuel solenoid's hold lead, appears to get battery voltage from thehot side of the preheat switch after running thru three switches that are closed under normal running conditions.

the three switches are exhaust temp, water temp, and oil pressure. I'd be inclined to check the switch connections (with the engine running) with a test lamp and see which one isn't working...

I'd make sure the solenoid adjustment is correct as well.

Thx so much 😊! So I don’t know but how I check the sensors ? Should be ohm meter right ? My next thinking is to replace the 2 black Bosch Relais in the electronic connection box.

i would use the process described in post #4...

Would also suggest fixing things before maintaining them....and keeping a clear record of what has been done will yield dividends in the future..

An alternative approach to validating the solenoid's function (assuming it is adjusted correctly) would be to use a fused jumper wire, from the battery, to the hold-in lead. disconnect the lead from the daisy-chain of switches and then connect the jumper to the hold-in lead right before you start the engine....disconnecting the jumper should close the solenoid....
