I am New on this forum and realy need help on how to remove the lower unit on an 1987 Evinrude 60 hp  I have done everything I can think of. Hope someone can help me.

Re: Need help Please!

Found all the bolts. 4 short ones and a long one, perhaps hidden by the trim tab.

Disconnected the shift rod at its top end.

Otherwise the drive shaft may be stuck in the crankshaft

Re: Need help Please!

Thank you for your reply! I think I can do this, however how do you get to this nut under the carb?

Re: Need help Please!

I just did this on an '83 70hp. There were 2 bolts in the back, one long one before the trim tab and a short one under it. The shift rod was a little tricky, had to use a socket with a swivel to go around the fuel lines. Had to remove the bolt that goes thru the shift rod (it has a pin on the end the goes thru the shift rod).

1987 60hp Evinrude/Johnson shift release..........

Look on the starboard side of the shift lever, right where it goes into the pivot point. You'll see a clip inserted into the shift shaft..... remove it. Now, put the shift lever shaft towards the other side of the engine which will release the shift pin from the shift clevis under the bottom carburetor.

You should really purchase a manual to avoid expensive and/or time consuming errors.

Thousands of parts in my remaining stock. Not able to list them all. Let me know what you need and I'll look it up for you. Visit my eBay store at:
