I need to know basic steps for installing a new transom seal on a 1983 V-6 stringer drive. Can I just remove the outdrive and work the new seal over the outdrive mounts and tilt mechanism? }}

"yep. Or some say with enough

"yep. Or some say with enough hot soapy water, you only need to remove the propeller."

"Hi Karl, im on the same page with you

I also need help but on a 1985 v4 16 hole

as Hy Stat stated in my thread:
"One trick with the transom boot is lots of hot soapy water on a sunny day and you can get the boot over the whole drive with just removing the prop. Manual will tell you to remove the drive, which isn't really hard either."

"the last 16 hole boot was 197

"the last 16 hole boot was 1977 or 78. Count again before you order a boot Kevin, and you'll have to remove those plastic hydrofoil fins someone has added to your drive."

"Woops, your right i took my f

"Woops, your right i took my friends word on it "No way we have 22 holes" then i checked on line and saw 16 stopped in 77 and counted my self.

Thanks for the heads up

"plastic hydrofoil fins" yeah i was wondering how i would get around those, are these plastic hydrofoil fins a good addition?"

To put it together, use marine sealant, and if any of the screw holes are stripped and the screw just spins, take it out and cut a sliver of wood with a pocketknife and stick a sliver or two in the hole, using enough so that the screw stays tight.
If you don't have a tilt adjustment, stabilizers generally keep the boat from porpoising as much in waves and keeps the bow more level. I have an aluminum whale tail on my drive.
Also get a manual available on this website.
