need help on a 83 mercury 115 not fireing

got boat last hear and never had time to work on it now i do have a lil time but hers what i found the wires coming into the motor gose to what i was told is a switch box its just behing the front plate it had a wire that was soft and copper inside was brittle looks like it got to hot a guy said theres a way to bypass it to see if it was my prob how do u bypass it to see if it is the prob befor i go spending money i dont have thanks for any help on this matter happy fishing to all
 
What is the model / serial # of this engine ???---------An 83 model would have 2 switch boxes on the side of the motor !!
 
The blue wire needs to be replaced. There may be a problem w/the switchbox, stator and voltage regulator.
 
its a thunderbolt and s number is 6263018 the box that has the crisp wire has 3 coming out of it a red,black and a white with a black stripe
