Hey so I bought a used Mercury 9.9 2 Stroke outboard that was stated to be a 2005, the only issue is that the plate with all info is completely faded. I was able to find 0G827748 after removing the cowl but I’ve been having a very tough time figuring anything out in regards to a specific year. Any help would be much appreciated👍 thank you

If correct, seems your serial number 0G827748 comes up as an 1999 6-HP [M] Model Number 1006201VD.
Parts Group: 6/8/9.9/15 HP, Options: Manual start, short shaft (15”/381mm) driveshaft housing, Tiller handle steering, Model style: M.

Even if the serail is not 100% correct and the engine really is a 9.9, the parts guide associated with the 6 also covers the 9.9 but often when ordering certain parts, you'll sort of need to know/figure out what the real HP is or converted to as usually the parts catalog will call each HP out as you locate the parts you want.

Hey thank you so much for the info, would there be any way to figure the true hp out? The cowl is badged as a 9.9 but I could see how that wouldn’t necessarily be accurate, especially on a used motor.

Seeing as how they use the same parts I wouldn’t imagine form factor would be much of an indication.

Thanks again 👍

What is the basis for the thinking that the different HP models all used the exact same parts?

I suspect that if you review the parts catalogs you will see the differences.
