Here's the good word directly from Merc :

I recommend even going further than Merc's recommendations.

Replace the plugs each spring and do the impeller every 2 years with a complete waterpump kit every other change (4 year intervals).

When you consider that a new motor is close to 10 grand what's 100 bucks in maintenance once a year...."
