"Hello all, I have a 1987 John

"Hello all, I have a 1987 Johnson 25hp outboard and the thing runs like a champ. However, I was out crabbing the other day and ran into a issue. The motor ran great all day, and this is after two months of sitting, and prior to that a year of just sitting with little maitenence. Anyway I was making the return trip and as soon as I got the boat on plane, the motor reved higher then I ever heard before. So I shut down the motor and took a look at everything and it looked fine. I did notice the during the day it did smoke a little more then usual, so i assume I may have added a little more oil then I should have at the gas pump. If this isn't a oil mixture problem, would anyone happen to know what it is or where to start the trobleshooting process? I am going to check the gear oil tonight, I haven't checked it this year so that may be an issue as well.

Thanks all,"

sounds like a spun prop.

ma

sounds like a spun prop.

mark the prop with a marker or chisle-aligned with the carter key is easier than removing the prop- and take her for a spin.....recheck you alignment if it doesnt match its spun.

props can be rehubbed cheaper tahn buying a new one

"I am assuming absent mindness

"I am assuming absent mindness to check the gear oil would not cause this? maybe causing the clutch dog to slip? BTW thanks for all of your input, it is greatly appreciated."
