Replaced transum shift cable a

Replaced transum shift cable along with the control box cables. Set the cables at required settings. Everything thing shifts fine and all is good. Put outdrive back on and shifts nicely into forward. Shift into reverse and it only goes about 1/4 and binds????? Any help would be appreciated. (1990 Seawirl 5.8 Cobra)
