Now i have just purchased a used volvo penta 260A from a buddy but i dont know if it will match up with the merc outdrive ? If not what do i need to change ? ... i know ill need to change how i mount the motor ...and all the other good stuff i just need to specifically know how to get this motor tied into the alpha one drive , TIA

The AQ260A rear engine flange area will be identical to the previous 4.3L engine, meaning that the Merc flywheel cover will mate up to the AQ260.
The AQ260 was equipped with the 153 tooth flywheel.
Merc typically used the 168 tooth flywheel.
With the same tooth count flywheel, you should be able to use the 4.3L starter motor.

The AQ260A used a Borg Warner drive coupler that was attached to the outer bolt pattern of the flywheel friction face.
You'll need a Mercruiser rubber hubbed drive coupler that will fit the AQ260A 2 pc rear main seal crankshaft flange.

You will also need to go through the drive coupler/engine alignment procedure once the AQ260 has been installed.

The side engine mounts for the AQ260 will be further forward. You will need to make sure that your stringer mounts will accommodate the further forward mounting.
(see my image below)

The over-all reduction may not be the same for the 5.7L.
Hopefully fastjeff, Bt Doctur, makomark, Chris (docksidemarineservices) or one of the other knowledgeable guys will answer that one for you.

Here is an image showing the differences in location of the side engine mount bosses between the 5.7L and the 4.3L .

Ok thanks for the info ! So the starter on the penta has been replaced and works , so do i still need to get a different flywheel ? I was told i needed to , but i dont see why i need a different flywheel if the starter that is on it WORKS for that wheel ... im thinking all i will need is to change out the coupler? And then it should slide right into my outdrive correct ?

A bit of clarity for you.

As said, if you use the Merc drive coupler (the one that uses the crankshaft bolt pattern for mounting)...... then you can use the 153 tooth flywheel and the starter motor for the 153 tooth flywheel.
If you change to the 168 tooth flywheel, you'll also need to change the starter motor.

And then it should slide right into my outdrive correct ?
You will first be performing the engine/coupler alignment with the stern drive removed.
Once the alignment has been adjusted, you will install the stern drive and the front shaft will slide into the coupler.

With the
AQ260 and VP drive, the engine can be installed with the drive still in place.
But with the Merc A drive, you will not be installing the engine until the stern drive has been removed!
