hi folks I would really like your help if possible as im really stuck as were I live I cannot find a decent boat mechanic ( here we go I recently bought a 1989 bayliner capri 3.0 omc its only my second boat the problem I have is when took this boat out the first time it over heated I thought or no ive been ripped off so took it back in. I looked at the engine and found a large hose that was split I thought this was the water in after fixing it it turns out it was the water out .so tested it running a hose threw the system and it was ok then took it back out an the same happened, I have now realised that the problem lies between the stern and the engine I have took the impeller out and examined it and it seems fine so im not totally baffled please help

engine cooling water cools your exhaust which exits through that rubber coupling hose. If your impeller isn't providing enough water, and the engine is overheating, the hot exhaust gases will melt the exhaust hose. Engine exhaust can reach 500 deg F.

The factory and even aftermarket manuals have a decent section on troubleshooting the raw water delivery system.

Your impeller looks good, but is it turning? That little shaft that drives the impeller has been known to have issues on some Cobra drives.
