Need help. 1994 Force 90hp Water pump assembly.

I have a Mercury Force 90hp outboard, serial number E065234, I believe it is a 1994. I'm not sure of the exact model number. I am in the process of replacing the water pump. The kit I have is part#FK12041. The problem I have is the kit contained a flat rubber o-ring and I don't know where it goes. There was no such o-ring when I disassembled the old water pump, or anywhere on the drive shaft. Where does it go?

It goes on the driveshaft, and you position it just above the pump to keep crud out.

Thanks Jeff. My service manual came in on Saturday. Turns out the previous owner had the impeller rotation backwards and that seal was missing. Has great water flow now.
