"a friend gave me a 1956 a10 5

"a friend gave me a 1956 a10 56 johnson 7.5 horse, it has been sitting 25 years, it was froze up, I managed to free it up. I know it needs coils and a water pump, are these motors worth putting any money into? if I could get it to run what would it be worth?"

"Mike, I would say if you can

"Mike, I would say if you can find the parts. There is a distribtor for old parts new and used on the web. If you clean all the parts that are there you might get it to run. I would first get spark. Take the fly wheel off and clean, plus scuff the inside of the fly wheel. You will definitely have to rebuild the carbs. If you get the spark, turn it over as muchas possible. Get some ether and spray it in the carbs to see if it will run. Then do the rest of the work. If those motors are not blown they will usually crank. I had a 53 model 15 horse given to me many years ago and had to unfreeze the motor every year. Good luck

Benny"

"If you tear it all apart, rep

"If you tear it all apart, repair what is needed and if all is in " good " shape you will love the way those motors run.You have to pull the powerhead anyway to replace the pump."

"These are great motors. There

"These are great motors. There are still thousands of them that have survived and many of them are still used every day. It will cost over $100.00 for the coils, condensers, points, carb kit and water pump kit. These motors used a special 2 hose tank and if you don't have it, they are on E-bay for about $60.00 or you could obtain a fuel pump from a later motor. You will also need a manual and if everything goes right, it will take about 5 hours to complete the parts installation. If the motor was used in salt water, it may not come apart easily. Don't force anything! Use heat to free up any bolt which does not come out easily. These motors are not restored because of their value, but because they run and sound great. The best part is putting the motor on a small boat and knowing that 50 summers ago, someone else was using that same motor. Good Luck"

"thanks for the input, my budd

"thanks for the input, my buddy said he rebuilt the carb 25 years ago, i am going to put coils and condensers in it, if it will start, I will put a water pump in, he also gave me a tank, but I would like to see if a fuel pump can be added."

"can anyone tell me how to use

"can anyone tell me how to use an old pressure tank never had one, do you pump it up with the silver knob on the top of the tank?"

"the push button on top,simply

"the push button on top, simply fills the carb, primes it,like a newer primer bulb, once running, the engine pressurizes the tank, enuf to force fuel to carb."
