Need advice on selecting an Outboard motor

"I am in the market for a new

"I am in the market for a new V6 outboard motor to mount a new Hydra-Sports 233 Walk around rated for 250 max hp. It will be a single installation on a transom bracket. I am torn between the 200hp and the 225 hp. They seem to have the same displacement and specifications. I have always had good luck buying Evinrude and Johnson V6 motors with carbs that were on the lower hp ratings for each engine series. I am scared of all the fuel injection problems and I am willing to sacrifice some fuel economy to gain reliability. I fish in the Gulf of Mexico out to 50 miles and have only been towed to shore once. It was a blown powerhead on a 1989 Mariner 200Hp outboard.

Please post any advise you have on this matter.
All opinions will be valued and help me to make the most informed decision possible.

"Jim.... The 200hp and 225hp OMC engines are identical except for the carburetors and the carburetor throttle bodies. I have a high opinion of both these models . The only flaw is that they have a high ampere alternator... 35amps. Attached to this 35amp alternator are the larger coils that supply power to the powerpack(s). The alternator runs quite hot, and will in time melt down in the area of the powerpack voltage supply coils, resulting in weak or no ignition. It takes quite a period of time for this to happen but it does and will happen.

I have two battery one run the 70 HP evinrude motor and the lights/radio and the other one run the trolling motor and the 2ea fish finder/live well. do they make something to recharge the batteries while the motor is running.

I have received quite a bit of positive feedback from our customers that have purchased the 200 HP Mercury Classic Engine. The 200 is a carburated version and has proven to be very reliable, even in harsh conditions.
