Need advice about starting engine after long storage

I've got a 9.9 Mercury two-stroke that has been stored for 13 years. It is a 2000 and has less than 20 hours on it (used for a sailboat auxiliary engine). I want to put it on a johnboat and use it for fishing. What should I do to it, if anything, before trying to start it up. When I stored it, I put a little oil in each cylinder and cranked it over. I also emptied all gas. Other than that, nothing was done.

I appreciate any advice that anyone might have.

Thanks.

New fuel and just start it up! Look for it to pump water right away ... If not shut it down immediately and check water pump impeller.

DON'T start it until you change the impeller! If it blows vanes you'll pay hell trying to get them out of the power head.
