name is eric just bought 71 tollycraft having yellow spark issues onstabord 318 moter any help would

More info on the type of ignition you have would be good. If you have a ballast resistor, you must use a coil that requires an external resistor. It will look for around 9-10 volts during operation. If you bought one with internal resistance, you'll need to supply 12 volts to the coil. This would be the wrong unit in a ballast resistor application and reduce spark quality. Improper dwell setting won't saturate the primary winding and result in poor spark as well, and so will a faulty condenser. Some preliminary checks are in order before moving on. Let us know.

Yes, Ditto Woodie on the coil feed voltage, and ditto the saturation (dwell angle) if contact points.
12 volts would seen only if a ballast resistor or a resistance wire is not being used to power the coil.

In 1971 the Chrysler engines may have been using VR triggering technology (i.e., electronic using the variable reluctor)
I'm pretty sure that by 1974 they were... not sure about 1971.
If so, this would mean no contact points, and would not include the connected condensor within the distributor.

If contact points are used for triggering, the condensor must be in good working order. Cheap to replace, so you may as well replace it.

+1 WoodieMan... When I bought my Trojan, previous owner stated that "the left engine has a small skip". Come to find out, he had a coil that stated ' No external resistor required' and the Ballist Resistor hooked up as well. After the Ballist Resistor was by-passed the boat ran 4200rpm with no skip ! I think thats why I got such a great deal on it because everything to do with fuel was replaced. He was thinking fuel blockage and could not get rid of the skip.

pacemaker.. These are the pics you requested ! Hopefully doing interior over SOON !! Gotta luv that 1973 plaid !!
