"Morning All.
Just found this site.could have done with it long ago.
I have recently aquired an evinrude of unknown vintage and HP,I think somewhere between 5 and 10 but I am hoping someone can tell me from the serial # 5522-01274.Can't find a model nunmber I am afraid.
This little motor runs like a rolex watch and is as quiet as a 4 stroke. The only thing apparently wrong with it is the hinge T piece on the end of th gear change shaft is corroded away and there is a mickey mouse lash up involving sheet metal and hose clamps,or a grip wrench (don't like that idea much).
My question is/are: what year and model/HP is it.
Can I get the bits to fix the gear change shaft.
How easy /hard would it be for me to fix.I have mechanical aptitude and tools but ) experience with outboards.
I would appreciate any advice anyone can give.
Regards Geoff Graydon"

"looking at my 61 microfiche,u need to pull the power hd to replace the shifter arm...no big deal tho...the arm part number is--377580 it still is a good number...cost is 62.50 in the book.It is also listed as vintage,so i'd try seaway first, then a dealer, then, used."

"Just to add to the advice fro

"Just to add to the advice from JWB, you will probably need a new powerhead base gasket after removing it. There is no sealant used on that gasket, just put it on dry after thoroughly cleaning both mating surfaces. You should also use a good grade of Marine 2 stroke engine oil and mix at a 24:1 ratio."
