My Johnson is lacking. .....

Hello all. I was once a member here under another name, but somehow lost track of my login info, so I re-registered with new info.

I have a question that I almost hate to bring up because it's probably been hashed and re-hashed over the years, but I've Googled until my fingers and patience were sore and talked to the local Johnson dealers, all to no avail.

My question is this, how/where can I find exactly what parts are required to bump my 2001 25hp Johnson, model J25TVLSIS, up to 30hp? My I recently bought a boat/motor package with this 25hp on it and it needs more oomph, especially when I get my wife and kids aboard.

I've done a bunch of looking at schematics for my motor and recorded various part numbers like carb, intake, leaf plate, but I can't find the throttle cam arm for the 25 and more importantly, I have no idea which model 30 hp schematic to look at to compare parts in order to find the differences between the 25 and 30.

Is there a thread, a resource, guide or something else that someone could point me to to get a definitive answer on this question?

Again, I hate to bring up what I'm sure has been discussed before, I just can't find the info I need for the year of my motor.

Trying to add another 5hp wont make that much difference...at least not as much as youre probably thinking it will..Id start with making sure the 25hp is tuned up good and running as good as it can..then look into a lower pitch prop for when you have the family on board. And weight distribution in smaller boats can make pretty dramatic improvements. As well as the manual trim setting of the motor for different conditions.

As you found out there are a bajillion models so getting a good answer is tough. But I believe you will find the main difference is the carburetor venturi size. You can swap carburetors for a mere $400. Hardly worth it for 5 horses that you won't even be able to notice in the real world.
