Have you checked the pfluggerhaven valve? Merc. only used them on two engines. I bet each of you has one of the only two built.

Please excuse my sarcasm. :( Please provide a complete description of the boat/engine/year in discussion and a clear explanation of the perceived problem. The use of sufficient punctuation greatly improves our understanding of what you are describing and your chances of receiving the correct assistance. Everyone involved here is more than happy to assist anyone with your boating problem. The makeup of this board includes professional marine mechanics, technicians, engineers, others working in related repair fields, DIYers and an idiot or two. With all combined you get years of experience covering a plethora of boat issues. I've not heard of anyone that did not fix their boat after clearly posting their problem and following the direction given them. All that is asked is that you post the final solution to your problem.

Thanks Guy, I just spit coffee all over my monitor because I was laughing so hard, looks like today will be a good day.

Seperate the steering from the motor -----------Is the problem in the motor or the steering mechanism at the helm ?????????????????

Yes. Took it apart cleaned it .took the rust out took hydraulic steering off first .taped out tilt ARM very little bit at a time , do not need heat just a long rod to push it out to the other side .cleaned it with my 12 Gaga shoot gun brush greased it with the right stuff. Took two hour's .I thought it was the hydraulices glad it wasn't. Good luck

Do you have " hydraulic steering " or just a single cable ---" push / pull system "--------------Is there a hydraulic reservoir to add fluid ????

Any tips to prevent hydraulic cable steering from jamming up? My motor is unattended for approx nine months in the winter. Thanks in advance

Some of the " cable steering units " can be taken apart and cleaned / greased.----------------If not then just greasing the part that goes through the tilt tube will suffice.-------------Most people think these are hydraulic but if there is no oil reservoir it is just a simple " push / pull cable " system.
