Remove spark plugs. Disconnect

Remove spark plugs. Disconnect latge RED electrical plug at engine. Crank engine by jumping starter solenoid. Do you have spark now?

"if I dont get spark after that, what would the problem be, last time I ran the engine it conked out, and when we got it home we had some water in the gas lines, could that of caused it? Can low battery power cause it not to spark?"

The ignition system does not run off the battery---------The battery and starter must be topnotch to turn the motor over fast enuff to make the magneto produce spark.
 
The engine must turn over at l

The engine must turn over at least 300 rpm in order for the stator to provide the necessary voltage to energize the powerpack.

Low battery = slow cranking rpm = no ignition.
