Thank you hystat for your help. My friend took the distributor to a guy who tested it and the frickin new points were missing the metal spring band that goes with it, tension against the copper strip, so when it spun above 1800 rpms the thing chattered like crazy!! Put spring band in and it runs like a champ with no misses or problems. My friend adjusted carb and timing after replacing the points. Anyone who lives near Bullhead City, Az. or is visiting, look up Steve at Good Faith Auto. He does auto and will work on boats. He loves classic older cars, too.
