Multiple gauge questions? none working!

I have a 79 procraft with an 85 johnson gt 150. It was passed down through my family and all gauges have quit working at one time or another. It has a fuel, tach, speed, and trim that none work. So far in my cart on amazon I have the speedo kit that comes with the pitot and tubing. Is this correct? I would really appreciate a knowledgable response that details how to go about each one. Im somewhat new to boating and I finally got the motor running good now i want to get some of the little luxuries to go along with it.

To fix the motor problems i had to wire in a 6 psi fuel pump where the primer bulb was located. I wired it in to the key switch so its only running when the motor is. So far it took away all the bogging and got a pretty nice top speed (just like to know how much that is haha). Anyone foresee any problems with that solution?

well its not lookin good?? Anyone out there with some experience or know how please gimme a few pointers before i jump into this project.

i cant speak for everyone but i think most of the members on here would have addressed the problem differently...the bogging problem or whatever was caused by something and you overcame it by adding a pump....you still have a problem.....have you checked the compression?..have you checked the spark for a good 7/16 fire?....how long did the motor sit up and do the carbs need a rebuild kit? etc etc....go with your gauges and have fun...good luck......

You shouldn't have to add an electric pump to an outboard. Sounds like the one on your motor is bad. As for the gauges, check all the wiring connections, especially the grounds. Check for power at the gauges with a voltmeter.

I think the fuel pump was bad because as long as i primed the bulb it ran perfect... when you let up after 30 seconds or so it would start to starve for fuel... didn't have the 400 bucks for the vro though.... tryin to get by til winter.... what wire do you ground to make the tachs go up to check the gauge itself? anyone know?

You don't ground a tach to make it work..you need impulses from the stator on the motor. On the tach, you have an ignition feed (power from battery), a ground, and a feed from the stator. If your motor is charging, and the wires are intact, it should work. You could aways try another tach to see if the gauge itself is bad.
