Multi-function tach problem

My multi-function tach (part # 6y8-8350t) stopped working yesterday. It is powered up when I start the engine but I only get one dash line and no information on tach, temp, or hours. I checked the wire from the engine to the dashboard and everything looks fine on that front. I also checked the online fuse going to the start switch and it is fine. Is there another fuse that I should check? Or what else should I verify? Thanks

The fuse is fine based on the tachometer powering up.

You say that it is powering up when you start the motor but the tachometer should be powering up prior to starting the motor. When the key is first turned to just the on position. When there should be 0 RPM indicated.

The dashed line is telling you that the tachometer has lost connectivity with the motor. That or the brains of the motor is failing to output data. The latter being doubtful.

Hi Boscoe,

You are right that the tach is powering up as soon as the key to on position. I will test the connectivity of the wire. Correct me if I am wrong but the data connectivity to the engine goes through the pigtail harness, not the 10 pins main harness, right?

Thanks a lot for your help,

JF

The engine data information comes from the Yamaha Command Link network. Via pigtail or main buss harnesses. Across some connectors. Depends upon how the boat is wired.

For instance, here is just one of the varying configurations.
