I am installing a new engine

I am installing a new engine and transmision. Is there a need to install mounts on the transmision to the stringers and is this a after market item?

" Wally, I have seen and had boats with and without tranny mounts. The one that did not have them, the shaft was supported with the stuffing box, a short distance from the gear. The one that had mounts, had a longer shaft, and a flexible style thru hull for the shaft, so it depends on the distance of unsupported shaft, and type of stuffing box used. When in doubt put them in for better vibration control, and do not forget to line things up real well. Kim "

" Wally, In all modern engine/trans packages, the engine has only one set of mounts and therefore relies on the trans mounts to support the rear of the engine as well as the transmission. DO NOT rely on the shaft to support the transmission. It was not engineered to offer any support to the engine or trans. If there are no mounts on your trans you probably did not buy the parts as a package. Either the engine mfg. or the trans mfg. will have the mounts you need. Good luck. "
