Hey guys i have a 93 johnson 30hp eletric start. Driving me crazy lol. I turn the key and get nothing. Heres what ive done so far. I bypassed the neutral switch. Check the fuse and replaced it(20amp). I put a new starter solenoid in it. Also new + and negative battery cables on it. Made sure everythings tight. Cleaned up the connections i could find. The key switch was replaced 2 months ago right before i bought it. If i take a jumper from the +ve battery post to the starter it cranks up. My key switchs choke still works. Also im getting 12vs on top of the solenoid and the key switch on B im getting 14-18vs and s terminal 20-60 when i turn it on. Ok so heres my question what am i missing? Please help me out on this im at a dead end trying to get it back running. Ran fine up to last sunday went to start it and nothing.

kill switch ??

Well i looked for a kill switch and couldnt find one useally in the controlbox right? the controls on it are johnson power pilet. they are older than the motor. only thing i found in the box was the neutral switch, looked like the horn assembly and the throttle adjustment bar/screw. and the key switch and they already bypassed the toggle choke switch.

Can you pull start it? Be sure and disconnect the battery before messing with the ignition switch, it takes a split second to burn up the ICM if you short the kill wire to batt pos. It would be a wire the ignition switch or the neutral safety switch keeping the starter from turning. Are you jumping the small start terminal on the solenoid from the ignition switch to battery pos.

I havnt tried pull starting it. I can take a jumper from positive battery side to starter and it works. Sorry wheres the ICM at? or what is the ICM? i took the neutral safety switch out and wired the two wires for it together. Reasopn im asking is once i had this issue I was checking the Volts to the key switch and i did on accident cross the meter lead and the switch sparked a little. But when i turn the key to start and test the top of the starter solenoid i get volts there.

Are there two small terminals on the start solenoid check there is battery voltage at both terminals with the key on start. If you only get voltage to one the solenoid coil is bad and needs to be replaced. If there is voltage to both It may be a bad ground wire, find the one that goes to ground and jumper it to a good ground and see if the solenoid works?

whats the ICM?, Also I did do the jumper to the grounds and nothing but ill double check again when i get off work. its a brand new solenoid. only power to one side.

If the motor runs then obviously the ignition system is good but allways use extreme caution testing the ignition switch hot.
yeah motor works its getting it to crank with the key and not have to touch the starter with a hot wire to start it. Thats why i think a wire or a ground somewhere is busted I just dont know how to check or what to do now. I was thinking a new wiriring harness. I dont know im at a dead in. Only time i can get it to run is if i take a wire from the positive side of batter touch the starter it turns it.

Also does anyone know where to get a nuetral safety switch that has the sprin in it when its in neutral it pushes the plunger up to connect the wires? I cant find on on ebay or the web
