"Boat - 40' River Queen Houseboat
Motors - two 318 Chrystlers
Thru cooling system - fresh water from lake

Problem - starboard engine wont warm up
not a guage problem, engine is cold about 100 Deg

port warms up to 160 Deg.

What I have tried - switched thermostat housing and thermostat from port side, no change, port warm' starboard cold"

Don't trust your temp gaug

Don't trust your temp gauge.
Use a jumper wire to temporarily switch leads from port to starboard. If the other gauge reads the same then keep looking for the problem.

Some systems have a restrictor in one of the hoses to properly balance the amount of water flow.

I use an infrared digtal thermometer gun to read the temps on my engines and manifolds.

I occasionally use the "feel" method to check the manifold and riser temps just for peace of mind.

"also you can pickup a hand he

"also you can pickup a hand held IR temp gauge that you can point at different parts of the motor to see the temps by using the laser pointer to pinpoint a temp. It comes in handy!

"I'll bet the t-stat housing is so rusted out that water is slipping by the t-stat.

Here's a solution:

thanks for all the help people

thanks for all the help people

but no luck yet

I placed clamp on water bypass and engine heats to 160 Deg

so it must be some restrictor missing or rusted away

will try to upload some pics tonight after work if I get time

Thanks again
