"Hi.
Not so long ago I purchased my first boat with a 1979 Evinrude 85 hp motor. The boat had been sitting for quite a while before I purchased it and on my first trip out it ran well for about 10 minutes then started running like a hairy dog before finally giving up the ghost. I’ve since had it in the shop where to obtain spark on all 4 cylinders they replaced the starter bendix, the power pack, and the trigger coil. The compression is extremely good for a motor it’s age and the motor now starts easily however the problem I now have is that on the 2 occasions I have taken it out since getting it back, it has run beautifully until stopping for a fish. Then when trying to start it an hour or so later, it won’t catch, and seems to be flooding. I’m hoping that you may be able to offer some advice as to why this might be happening. One other thing I have noticed is that the fuel bulb doesn’t get hard after pumping like it does with my little 6hp auxiliary however fuel does still appear to be getting through to the carb OK."
