Motor will not accelerate

I took my evinrude 25ph stick steer on the river today. It has ran good until today. It will crank up fine but when I was going up river and it wouldn’t slow down all the way. And would put it in neutral and it still was driving. When I would change it to forward it would snatch and speed up.I hooked it up to the water hose at the house and it will not accelerate now. I can hear it go into forward and reverse but will not speed up. Any ideas?

Is this a 1953 model ?---A 1970 model ?----2000 model ?-----or a 2005 model ?----Observe the action of your throttle linkages.---Perhaps broken linkages on carburetor.------I have seen issues with loose screws under the flywheel.-----Or broken throttle cable.-----Or something wrong in the control box.
