Motor swap

I have a 1984 Mercury 90hp 6cyl stacked outboard (tower of power), with Gen 1 controls. considering replacing it with a 1998 Mercury 90hp 3cyl ELPTO. Does anybody know if the controls and wiring from the 84 will match up / work with the 94? Thank you.
