Motor Stuck

Hey guys,

My buddy just bought an old junker. It's got an 80's vintage 115 hp outboard merc that hasn't been started in YEARS. Right now the motor is stuck in the upward tilt position and he can't figure out how to get it down.

He said he removed some of the hydraulic lines to let the fluid out and the motor still won't tilt down. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I know nothing about outboards.

Thanks,

-JJ

The tilt tube may have seized and need manipulating to free it, that along with some grease and a handy trick that someone here will know may do it. It may also have the tilt lock mechanism engaged in the raised position and may just need to be rotated out of the way once the weight is taken off by a bit of a lift to the outboard leg. If it lifts easily but will only go down as far as it was I would say it is definately the tilt lock mechanism engaged.

If it is stuck and you hold the switch for down , then there is a good chance that you will burn up the trim motor.
