Motor Smoke 1966 20hp

I have a 1966 20 HP Chrysler outboard and it smokes alot when it is running. I have it running in a barrel of water and the top layer of the water has turned black with oil. Is this just me having to much oil in my mix or could it be something else?

I have read that synthetic oil mix is much cleaner, You might try that
if it bothers you.
When your on the water, the oil gets dispersed in a lot of water
and you don't notice it so much.
I've noticed that when I run one of My motors that has not run for a
long time it smokes heavy until it runs for a while.
