Hey;

1996 130HP Johnson runs at proper temp at idle but cools right down as revs are increased.
Changed the outer pressure relief spring and made it worse. Any suggestions please? Thanks.

I don't have the number but it looked and felt the same as the old ones. There are also inner relief springs which I will replace in the springtime.

The shprt springs are for the thermostats and the longer springs are for the pressure relief. It sounds like the internalports are plugged or restricted creating high pressure internally. Get a gallon of saltaway and put the gearbox in a large tub of water with saltaway in it and let it idle until the water in the tub gets hot. Do you flush it with tap water regularly? After each use is ideal and store it in the running position so it completely drains out. Walmart should have the saltaway.

That engine calls for 143 degree stats you may be running a bit hot also. Do the hand test on the heads. Hold your hand on the head for a slow count to six it should get hot enough you want to pull your hand away but dont have to.
