"My rectifier/regulator went on my 1996 johnson 150- jwb diagnosed-(thanks again)and I saved a few bucks by replacing it myself.
Oddly enough, before i knew what it was, I cut the wire that had fried (the hot lead to the battery) and the motor still started.
I shut it right down, but was damned surprised that it started. How could it?
I thought the regulator metered the volts for the power pack and such. How could it work without the constant hot wire? Any ideas?
I'm new to outboards and curious!"
