Motor neutral switch problem

"I have an 03 115HP Johnzuki 4

"I have an 03 115HP Johnzuki 4 stroke. The motor neutral switch has given me a problem. The switch closes when the shift lever is set to neutral, by a lever pushing on a metal actuator to press in the switch plunger to close the contacts. Twice I've had the metal actuator to be pushed off to the starboard side of the switch, and when this happens the actuating lever hangs up on the switch plunger and the control shift lever hangs up, not allowing starting nor moving into forward or reverse. The switch is not loose and I've verified there is not a burr on the actuating lever which would grab the metal actuator pushing it over to the starboard side of the switch. Has anyone else seen this problem, and if so what is the fix?"

"If You go to the BRP catalog

"If You go to the BRP catalog (2006), You will see there are different part-numbers depending on serial numbers. Seems the system might have been slightly changed, perhaps due to problems described . Perhaps a 'modification' to last version might solve the problem."

"I verified the new parts agai

"I verified the new parts against the old parts when I picked them up. I found the problem, and it was in the adjustment. The switch needed to be moved more to the stbd side so the lever arm could not grab the metal actuator. The switch is adjustable port/stbd via slotted holes in the mounting bracket. The adjustability doesn't seem to affect the switch actuation in neutral at all, but if the switch is set too far port, the lever arm is able to grab the metal actuator when shifting from neutral to reverse. I was able to replicate the problem, then adjusted the switch full stbd and problem gone. I shifted from neutral to reverse and back to neutral 150 times while watching and all is well. The original problem must have been caused by the switch vibrating loose allowing the lever arm to shift the switch to port, which I found then allows the lever arm to grab the metal actuator and actually bend it across the switch. I hope in the long run this will help someone else. Thanks for your help."
