Has anyone replaced the motor

Has anyone replaced the motor mounts on a AQ120B. If so could you give some instructions. TIA.

Thanks Boat Doc but mine does

Thanks Boat Doc but mine does have front mounts. The 120 is in a 1981 Bayliner Explorer. What I was wondering was do you have to remove the support brackets to replace the mounts and use a jack to support while changing. TIA

"Just support the engine somehow, block of wood, cherry picker, overhead lift and remove and replace. That's great that you have mounts other than the rear."

"Cameron,
The Explorer with AQ120 was built for economy. Mine will do the same as yours 10-12 with a fresh bottom paint job. We have had a great time with this boat but it does not go fast but sure is great on gas.
Regards"

"I have a 1980 Bayliner Explorer with an AQ120B and a 15x15 prop, and if I am alone in the boat with the bow down I can get up to about 18 mph. The engine is turning at about 4400. But because the noise is so great and the boat doesn't handle well, I don't hold that speed for very long. One time I blew the cap off the heat exchanger. The boat seems more comfortable at about 4000 and 14 - 15 mph. I think my wife is more comfortable when we are doing 3800 and about 13 mph. At 3600 rpm we do 11 - 12 mph.

Right now, though, the stern drive bellows, universal assembly and water intake apparatus are being changed and after that comes the shaft bearing."

"Joe,
Your last paragraph, just completed the same and is working fine, not to expensive. By "blew the cap off the heat exchanger" was that on the seawater or freshwater side?"

"Fred;
It was the cap on the sea water strainer. But the twist threads on the strainer housing broke long ago and I have been using an expansion type plug in place of the cap for several years. It's the kind you can buy in any hardware store. The fit is good and tight and it usually works fine. Not tight enough for 4400 rpm, though."

"Joe,
Thanks for the info good to know. One quick question. My Explorer has what looks like a thruhull fitting, port side aft very close to water line,can not find entrance inside engine compartment, does your Explorer have this fitting and what is it for? Regards."

"Fred;

I do. On my boat it is the drain from the gutter (for want of a better term) around the engine access. There is one on the starboard side, too. And there is a fitting port side about midship for the sink, and another small fitting, actually below the water line, to drain the ice pan in the ice box."

"Joe,
Same as mine (22&#3

"Joe,
Same as mine (22'), however on port side lower than the "gutter" drain is another fitting at or slightly in the water line. Do you have that one? BTW thanks for the quick responses. Much appreciated."

"Fred;

I forgot about this one. I think it is the drain from the storage bay under the deck. I'll check when I'm at the yard.

"I'm looking forward to getting the boat back in the water with the new universal unit. I'm hoping for less noise back there. And I'm going to convert to an electronic ignition as you suggested, Eric.

BTW, I have two engine mounts."

"Joe,
I thought my Explorer was in nice shape until I saw your picture. Wow very nice 1980. Mine is in the water all the time, no trailer. The circled thruhull is the one and you are correct it is the storage bay drain. Got it cleaned out and is working now. Thanks for your help.
Regards"
