"i am installing a cmc power tilt in place of my old unit which is inside the boat. i have a 1983 mariner outbaord and to install the cmc trim/tilt unit, it says to lock motor in the down position. there are holes on the motor portion of the unit and on the mounting brackets also. the problem is the rod which was on the boat(and removable) fits through the holes on the bracket, but not through the motor holes. is it safe to drill through the motor holes or is there another way to lock the motor down. the new unit goes between the transon and the engine which put the motor 6" back."
