I have to redrill the motor mo

I have to redrill the motor mounting holes in the transom of my boat after raising it.I know that the guys that hang motors for living have a template they use.Because I don't have a template does anyone know what the bolt pattern measurements are to mount a 1992 120?Also how far from the the top of the transom should the first set of holes be?

"Dan, I would assume you have the motor off the boat? you can make a template from the motor mounts itself, or even the existing holes in the transom (which will have to be filled/repaired to keep the water out and prevent the transom from rotting).

As to where they should be drilled - that depends on getting the proper alignment so that the cavitation plate on the motor is level with the bottom of the transom. There is no "one size fit's all" measurement for that.

Perhaps an alternative to your problem is to buy/install a jack plate (adjustable type) - that would allow you to use the existing holes in the transom and give you the ability to adjust the motor up/down about 5 inches or so - allowing you to get an exact alignment for your particular setup..."
