"how do i make more power from my 59 super sea horse 50hp. i see in the service manual that the 50, 60, and 65hp have the same bore and stroke, and the same carb a type e. so what is the differance in the motors. do they have the same compression ratio, or a difference in the rotating assembly.

Sell it and buy a bigger motor.

Yes, different horsepowers share a common powerhead but most have different carbs, intakes and exhausts which makes turning "x" into "y" quite costly.

Second point. You need to increase your horsepower by 50% to see a 15% increase in your top speed - that's just the physics of it - so going from 50 to 60 horses (20% horsepower increase would result in no noticable improvement).

Third point - if you live in the US it's illegal to alter an outboard so that it will produce more horsepower than the way it came from the factory - not a big deal unless you get caught...."
