I have a 2002 merc 135hp (V6).....can it be made into a 175 or 200hp easily?? i have heard that replacing the CDI and carb jetting or 200hp carbs would do it??
It is not an optimax model.

"The 135, which is a great motor, only shared a powerhead with the 2.0 liter 150 (XR2/XR4 Black Max models)..

So you could replace the carbs (can't simply rejet them) and gain about 2 miles per hour - plus increase the horsepower above the displacement which will put added stress on the powerhead, or you can simply save your money and enjoy the motor..."

Thanks guys. i was just wondering...... so back to the 135hp. it runs great but at flat out it slows down and stops????? let it cool down and off it goes again.
it will run all day as long as you dont go flat out???
any ideas??
carbs are clean fuel is good.

Has it been opened before? Look for broken paint seal on powerhead and paint off bolt heads.


Does alarm sound before dying?
How does motor die? Sudden jerk? Gradually? What's max RPM that she'll run at without stopping?
Correct spark plugs?
Maintainance history? Home or shop? {I've seen some shops cook things up...}
