"hello to all. i am the new ow

"hello to all. i am the new owner of a 15 foot glastron with above mentioned motor. i could really use some info on the boat as i dont know much about it or the motor. it was given to me and it seems to be in pretty nice condition. my first question is does the motor charge the battery. i have a trolling motor, fish finder, lights, radio, and livewell on the same fuse panel. i dont want to drain my power and not have the boat start and i only have one battery. i have never had more than a 14 foot alumicraft with a 10 hp johnson. should i have a secondary battery or will this work. second and this may not be the place but i need to repair the hull in one small area and was wondering the best way. i could really use as much info on the motor as possible or possibly a way to get more...thanks as always

"Great looking boat and for free...!! Wow !! If your motor is electric start, then it will have a charging system built in..Around a 9 amp...The key here is to have a good deep cycle marine Battery with good clean connections...If you will post back the complete model number, then can tell you more about your motor...Any good fibre-glass shop can repair what you want fixed, and should be reasonable on the cost..."

Complete model number is 60 ES

Complete model number is 60 ESL-70D. I'm hoping repairs and upkeep will be cost effective. I have worked on many smaller johnson outboards but nothing nearly this big. I have a seloc manual but would really like someone who is familiar with this to let me know. Motor looks great and I am sure it is worth some money and would like to keep it in this good of condition.thanks for any help

"it has a charging coil under

"it has a charging coil under the flywheel. It is electric shift(motor must run to shift),this is considered a problem by some but in fact they are a well engineered and reliable unit.1970 is the year."

"would it be safe to run acces

"would it be safe to run accessories such as trolling motor etc. or should I run a secondary battery for lights, radio and the like. would hate to get stuck without the cranking power. sorry for the lack of knowledge but this is a whole new setup for me and i am not to sure what to expect"

"Use a voltmeter directly on t

"Use a voltmeter directly on the battery poles. Read the voltage with all equipment on, and motor running. If you are are below ~12.2V you are draining the battery. To keep a good charge you should have ~13.5V or more, when running.

I'm really more concerned

I'm really more concerned with running accessories with the engine off. Would i be better off with more batteries?

"Zebbman, that is a good motor

"Zebbman, that is a good motor, but, I would recommend a seperate battery because of the CDI ignition system. If you run down the starting battery, attempting to start the motor on a low battery can cause damage to the CDI ignition box. These boxes are not cheap."

I have a 24 volt bow mount tro

I have a 24 volt bow mount trolling which i think is the only thing i will run off of the secondary battery. i assume i will need 2 bateries run in sequence to run this. what is the best and safest way to do this
