I have a '86 21' Bayliner Trophy with a Volvo AQ 131 A four cylinder engine. This has a single carb a single overhead cam.
I suppose that it is about 130HP.
What is the largest four cylinder Volvo engine that will bolt up to the existing 275 OD?

Thanks
Erik.

Sell the boat, 'n buy the 1 ya really want, with the Power ya want,.... It's Waayyy Cheaper,....

The AQ145 or the AQ151 in the single OHC version.

If up for more serious re-power, the 4.3L GM SBC could be adapted.
You'd need the AQ200B exhaust Y-pipe, and the 3" Barr exhaust manifolds.
The V-8 flywheel cover will be necessary.
The lower unit will need to be changed to the 1.89:1 ratio.

All parts remain OEM.

Couldn't be any truer. Having done many engine swaps for people over the years, this IS the best way to go.

I would completely agree with this if it wasn't for the ease of the AQ series regarding a swap like this.

I do agree if the OP does not have the skills to take this on.

If a person absolutely loves the boat..... why not do a repower?
Boats are never investments anyway..... they are always expenses.
We just use it up in the form of family fun and enjoyment. :D

Ayuh,.... Generally speakin', True enough,... Boats are Always an Expense,.....

Re-fittin' a hull can be an Investment, so long as it's a "Classic" hull, with a "Cult" followin',....

A Bayliner's gonna come up short on both accounts though,...

That was a very PC way to describe Bayliners.
Yes, it sure was! :D
I fully agree..... these older ones were perhaps not the best built boats out there.
However, the ole Searay -vs- BL argument falls a bit short with regard to some models when comparing like years.

You know that I own an old 2850 Bounty boat. The Bounty was a bit ahead of itself back then.
Even though, I am able to see some shortcuts that they made. The chopper gun follow-up was lousy.
