"I purchased an 1983 Glastron

"I purchased an 1983 Glastron this spring with a 2.5L Chevy and an OMC sterndrive. I have had the boat out serveral times this summer and it runs great now that I have the correct prop for the altitude here in Colorado. My questions is, how can I increase the HP on the 2.5, different cam, Pertronix points, I love the boat and have alot of work into it already, so if anyone has any ideas for more HP I would appreicate hearing about it. Finding good used motors here is tuff to do. I think my motor is solid so I would like to stay with it and just build it a little. Thanks for reading."

"sorry, no HP upgrade for the

"sorry, no HP upgrade for the 2.5 exists...the cam is as lumpy already as the valves and fiber timing gears will allow and the pertronix is simply a convenience issue. there is no HP increase with elec ign..replacing motor with a 3.0 will get you about 15HP..a friend of mine did this swap in his 16' Century and it was quite noticeable. aside from that you are going V6.
I am doing my second 4 cylinder to V6 swap right now. My first boat went from a 38 mph boat to a 53 mph boat. "

"Thanks, that's not what i

"Thanks, that's not what i wanted to here but kind of already figured that. How big of a deal is it to change to a V-6. I assume it would take a different drive also. I don't really want a someone elses problems so where would I find a rebuilt one that would fit this boat? It's a 16' open bow, very solid boat. Would I have to stay in the same year range or could I go up in years to an electronic ignition? Sorry for all the questions just need to decide if it is worth the money or if I should sell it and look for a different boat this fall. Thanks"

"yes - your drive is only good

"yes - your drive is only good to 140HP. I acquired a whole OMC800/3.8 V6 powered boat with a cracked block and put a new block in it and then put everything into my hull, then added a 4 BBL and intake.
Selling and rebuying what you want definitely the easiest way! A 1985 4.3 with 800 series drive would be the only easy swap that even has an electronic distributor available for it. And easy depends on the room in your engine compartment. Mine is huge. the V6 fits perfect."

"Thanks Frank, I don't think I'm that desperate. Thinking more along the lines of just living with it. Maybe I should loose some weight and take 1 less beer cooler with me. HA HA"
