"Hi all I gone and done it today my startor rope went and being a complete moron I tought that to change it I had to open the top part of the motor,where that spring coil is my GOD what have I done I've managed to close it back again but have no how to tension it and how much,when its not on the pully I pull the rope and it retracts back in quite quick but when I attach it to the stator pully and pull the rope is not going back in the motor is a JOHNSON 20 BJ 20CREND PLEASE HELP WITH DIAGRAMS IF POSSIBLE.MANY THANKS NICK"

this link will give you exploded diagrams and complete parts descriptions........you can also go to googlebooks.com and get partial repair manuals........but if you are going to be doing a lot of the work yourself a manual is a must

Thanks I manage to fix the prolem if it's any help to anyone to recoil the spring all it needs is 3 and a 1/4 turns anti clockwise then thread the rope back in ..........well it worked for me but don't take my word for it consult a manual if you have one I dont I got all the help of this site and the web.
