"Recently acquired a 1989 17&#

"Recently acquired a 1989 17' Dixie bowrunner with a Force outboard. There is not an id plate anywhere to be found. I'm quite sure it is an 85HP and believe it was original to the boat. Two carbs have 12-88(original?) and one has 3-87(replaced?). They are WE18-1A(87) and WE18-2D(88). From the carb dates and boat year I would guess the motor to be an 87, 88, or 89. Does anyone know of some other way to find/get the model/serial# - maybe from part numbers from different parts on the motor. The motor was painted, but originally was a metallic dark blue. I can't get the right parts for this motor because I keep getting asked for the model/serial#. Help!"

"Thank you for the help. I am

"Thank you for the help. I am new to a motor & boat this size. I had heard it would be on the welch plug (freeze plug?). Would you be able to point me in the right direction to finding this? I have all 3 carbs removed (for rebuild), and removed the starboard electrical panel(with cdi's on it). Haven't been able to find one. Does it resemble a car engine freeze plug? Where would it normally be on an 85HP-'87 to '89? Thanks again for any help you can offer.....Ed"

The plug is similar in appeara

The plug is similar in appearance to a freeze plug except that it is silver in color. On my 120 it's supposed to be on the top but I don't have one. I have the question out there about where else to look because I have not been able to find a marine mechanic that knows.
