Model Number for 9.5 Evinrude

Reading several posts I understand knowing the model number can be important. Unfortunately the Evinrude 9.5 that came on a boat I purchased recently has had the serial / model plate removed. I read some where the model / serial number could also be stampled on the freeze plug. Either it is not on my motor or I am not looking at a freeze plug.

I have tried to narrow down the possibilities indirectly, like the sschapterpsa.com/ramblings/OMC_9.5. It is claimed here that only years 67-73 motors have an idle adjuster knob on the tiller handle. Mine has the adjuser knob. The upper cowling latch was moved to the lower rear in 66, and mine is in the lower rear, also eliminating 64 and 65 years.

Please give me any suggestions you might know of and a picture (like the freeze plug) would be appreciated.

Thanks

Look on the ---------------old omc site-------------Lots of catalogues posted and you can compare the pretty pictures with yours.

Lenard..Thanks for the great picture. Unfortunately nothing matches with my engine. I see what I believe to be a blowout plug on top of my engine, just below and behind (toward front of motor) the thermostat housing, but it has no markings and looks as if it has never been desturbed. I even pulled the flywheel in case it was in the way. Is your picture from an actual 9.5? If so, any chance you can zoom out a bit so I can see where you are looking.

Racerone...a very good suggestion. I have done that and all the cowlings in the brochures are white, mine is Evinrude blue except for the Sportwin 9.5 emblem on the front. Otherwise I cannot see anything in all the brochures to help.

No, the brochures show the actual pictures of the motors !!!-------Perhaps you were on the wrong website.-----If you post the picture here ( if grahics are original) some one will identify the year quickly and without any fuss.

Obviously not original on the cover ( molested with paint ) and stuff missing --------------------My bet is a 1967 model.

There are numerous " different " things between the 64 and 73 models.----Many parts are also common from one year to the next.
