Purchased a 1976 115hp outboard, did not have a starter on the motor, don't have a manual and not sure how the starter and solonoid are installed and wired. can anybody help?

Starters are often burned out on a motor( in poor condition ) that needs excessive cranking.------------So it would be wise to check out your motor and verify condition before spending a penny.

thanks, only wish i knew what i was looking at,, not familiar with outboard motors at all, imagine it would cost a small fortune just to have it checked out

Why not learn to check it out yourself !-----Or pay good money for a starter and solenoid and then find out that possibly the motor is beyond ecomic repair / recovery.---------Did you get warranty from the seller ???

paid $100.00 for 20 ft boat/motor/and trailer....boat is repairable and i plan to refit and use it but if the motor is beyond repair the whole thing goes to the junk yard.

Good oil in the lower unit and NO WATER in it ???------------------------You can do a compression test with an " armstrong " starter.-------------------You can check for spark on all 4 with the same " armstrong " method.----------------Disconnect the big red plug and pull it over to see if you have spark.--------------Battery is not required to test for spark.
