"Hello group, drained the Penta 270 outdrive today and the oil was milky. The correct quantity came out 2.5 qts. Feels oily, how bad could it be? Any ideas would be helpful. TIA."

"If the boat has been in the water for a long time, and/or if it has been a long time since you changed the oil, I would just drain the oil, put a fresh batch, run the engine with the outdrive into gear for a fewminutes, drain the oil put a fresh batch, and resample at the end of the season. If the oil is still milky, you may have to reseal the whole outdrive, or at least replace the seals in the shifting mechanism and propeller shaft, which are the most likely places for water ingress (but not the only possible ones).

Pressure testing the outdrive would be another solution, but it does not always work."
