mid 80's motor wants to run at full choke but dies off released

We rebuilt the carbs, rmoved and inspected the the reed plates, performed compression check. motor ran fine and then sat for a month and now only wants to run on one cylinder unless fully choked. any thoughts?

By fully choked, do you mean you have the primer in the manually on position?
Remove the plugs for the high speed jets and pump the primer bulb, does gas come out?
If not the needle valves are stuck closed.

i am definitely etting fuel. if we were to take our hand and place it over the top carb, the motor takes off (as if it were fully chocked)

I think you'll need to go through the carbs again.
