"A neighbor has a 7.5 Mercury from the mid-1970's. It drops into forward all by itself when the motor is revved. With the lower unit removed, it drops from neutral to forward by just turning the propeller. Is it worth trying to open up the lower unit to fix it? Do I have to buy a special tool or is there another way to open it up. What direction does the cover turn?"

THE SHIFT CAM IS IN THE LOWER
